Membership in the ECW is open to all women of the church. We have a small but active group that meets regularly on the second Tuesday of each month at 7 PM. We do try to have a meeting or two in the spring during the afternoon hours.
We have served the church this fall by hosting the reception after Father Bob Sutherland’s funeral. We held the annual Rummage Sale in September, raising about $900.
We hosted a bake sale at the Christmas Bazaar in November and another bake sale at Crossroads in December. After all that baking, we met for a fun night of games in December, thanks to Nancy Holbrook and Millie Simpson.
We also hosted the men of the congregation for a pot-luck breakfast Sunday night, Jan 13, with an interesting program by Deanna Scharf with input from Susan Baker on their mission trips to Guatemala.
Many of our programs are of general interest so we have invited the rest of the congregation and other churches to join us. We had Larry Klaibor from the Sheriff’s office speak to us on identity theft and protection and Joan Brown Campbell, Director of the Department of Religion at Chautauqua Institution spoke to us about the United Nations Women’s Peace Initiative. Our own Amma Kim presented an excellent program about women in the church.
We also host a tea at the Episcopal Cottage at Chautauqua Institution each summer, usually in August. This year we had a quite a turn out and lots of tasty treats.
As much of what we do is raise money, which we donate to the church, we are planning a Victorian Tea later this spring. And of course our annual Luncheon will be held in June.
If you haven’t joined us already, please consider doing so this spring. Our church has many amazing women as members and we hope you will allow us to get to know you better.
Many thanks to all of you who have helped to bake, serve, organize, sell and cleanup for so many of our events.
Respectfully submitted,
Joyce Brasted, President
