Advent & Christmas 2008
Dear Friends,
Rejoice and sing into the new Christian year!
Advent is a season of anticipation and preparation.
The increasing light on the Advent wreath represents God moving us out of darker
times into brighter days with the ultimate gift of God’s love and saving grace. We
become lighter of heart, mind, and spirit as we receive the gift. With a gift such
as this, material gifts pale in comparison and the economic woes we face can take
a back seat.
Christmas is the celebration of the Glory of God breaking into our world through the Incarnation. What a magnificent gift we have been given in the vulnerability of the newborn baby Jesus. I cannot think of a more non-violent, life fulfilling, and miraculous gift. Let us rejoice for unto us a Child is born, unto us a Son is given!
Christmas is an opportunity to enter into the new year with newborn eyes.
- God can be seen in the lights shining from the angels of giving:
- From the lights of the neighbors and volunteers who offer shelter food, clothing, toys and gifts to those in need, and to the stranger. From the lights of the caregivers, nurses, doctors, and volunteers who minister to the sick and weak.
- From the lights of family members who care for one another.
- From the lights of your churches filled with warmth, song, and the message of God’s Incarnate Love and Healing for all.
Rejoice, celebrate and sing!
